Not every spotlight or ceiling light that is suitable for a bathroom can automatically be installed in or directly next to the shower.

The IP rating indicates how well a luminaire is protected against factors such as dust and water. Bathrooms are divided into different safety zones. The requirements for shower lighting depend on the exact position of the luminaire in relation to the shower and water sources. In areas where luminaires are directly exposed to moisture or splashing water, a higher degree of protection is therefore required. IP65, for example, is a common choice for spotlights in a shower area, although the IP rating alone does not determine whether a luminaire is suitable for every situation.

In addition to safety, positioning is also important. A spotlight directly above your head may be functional, but it does not necessarily create the most attractive lighting effect. With the right position and beam angle, the lighting can also highlight a tiled wall, shower niche or natural stone surface. This allows shower lighting to be both functional and atmospheric.
